Ham Common and the surrounding public heath and woodland make a pleasant rural setting within a short bus and train ride from the centre of London. A 15-minute walk across the countryside takes one to the banks of the River Thames between Richmond and Kingston. A 10-minute walk through woodland takes one to historic Richmond Park. It is famous for its view of London from King Henry V111's mound, with its deer herds, with its lakes and streams and the beautiful Isabella Plantation, world renowned for its multi-coloured azaleas and rhododendrons. A bus ride and a train journey takes one to Waterloo Station, where the Eurostar fast railway services Lille, Brussels and Paris, less than three hours away. Richmond town centre with its friendly and bustling riverfront development of hostelries, pubs and restaurants has a comprehensive shopping centre and a famous theatre which often previews shows prior to release on the London stage. Sports are catered for, particularly Rugby Union with Harlequins, London Scottish, London Welsh, London Irish and Roslyn park all within a short distance of Richmond.
